1. Environmental conditions are also a major consideration. Most warehouses operate under air-conditioning and lighting. In case of extreme temperature conditions, special use of belts, bearings and drive units is required. Although the warehouse is in a relatively clean environment, the conveyor system may have to connect a cleaner area with a harsher environment (such as a waste paper box area). Some items must be isolated based on health and safety factors. These factors will also affect the design of the conveying system and storage area.
All goods handling equipment require different levels of maintenance. For gravity systems, regular inspections are usually only required to ensure that the rollers rotate normally. In more complex systems, the manufacturer should provide regular maintenance measures. Generally, companies have fixed maintenance personnel for expensive manufacturing equipment, but they don’t think there is such a need for the equipment in the warehouse and ignore it. In fact, in the preliminary planning stage, for the complex handling system, the maintenance cost must be included in the procurement budget, and the maintenance requirements must also be included in the system selection and evaluation considerations.
2. Considerations for the selection of conveying equipment
Because the surface of the conveyed goods is in direct contact with the conveyor, the characteristics of the goods directly affect the choice of equipment and the design of the system. The characteristics of the conveyed items, including size, weight, surface characteristics (soft or hard), processing speed, packaging method and center of gravity, are all factors to be considered.
